NATO Days in Ostrava is the Biggest Security Show in Europe

20.09.2015, 16:54

Over 70,000 visitors have fully enjoyed the second day of the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2015. Together with the Saturday´s record single-day visitor rate of 155,000, the total attendance reached 225,000, thus tying the records of 2014 and 2011.

Major Sunday´s dynamic display attractions, held in somewhat colder weather and under an overcast sky, included the Polish Air Force Aerobatic Team Orlik flying the PZL-130 aircraft, the E-3A NATO AWACS airplane flyby or the landing of the C-17 Globemaster III giant cargo plane that arrived as support aircraft for the USAF´s B-52 bomber. For the entire day the dynamic display area was under the siege again with the spectators cheering to the ongoing presentations of the armed forces, police, firefighters, prison service and other safety and law-enforcement agencies. Similarly, many a presented exhibit at the static park was completely engulfed by the human masses enjoying their time at the show. The NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2015 has fully reconfirmed its title of the biggest security show in Europe.

There is no doubt that the aerial acts are the most attractive but the ground presentations do not lag behind a bit. The ground displays also need supreme concentration of all involved personnel as it was superbly demonstrated during the simulated attack on terrorists at the airport tower by the Strike Unit of the Police Directorate of the Moravian-Silesian Region together with their Polish colleagues from the Specjalny Pododdzial Antyterorystyczny Policji (SPAP) from Katowice or during the intervention against the rioting gang, suppressed by the Special Order Unit of the Police Directorate of the Moravian-Silesian Region in cooperation with the Polish Oddzial Prewencji Policji Katowice.

Similarly decisive was the presentation of the Customs Service, showing international cooperation in stopping the cigarette smugglers at the Czech-Slovak border or in discovering drug and illicit money trafficking at the Czech-German borders. Much quieter was the presentation of the Ostrava City Municipal Police, showing the spectators the training of their dogs and horses. The Municipal Police also operates and guards two bike storages with the maximum capacity of 8,000 bicycles. As many as 5,732 bikers have used the storage during both days. Other interesting displays were those of the Fire Rescue Service, showing the freeing of passengers injured in a car crash. The top aesthetic impression was surely left by the Motorbike Unit of the Castle Guard, showing their elegant moves in highly elaborate manoeuvres.

NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days  top priority has always been the safety of all visitors and participants. The event takes place at such scale only thanks to annual highest possible coordination and cooperation by all participating subjects with the support of partners. “There is enormous invisible effort behind each and every act, be it in the air or on the ground, up and down entire chain of command, from the part of commanders to those that execute it, at the right place and time. At the same time, high-quality support and services must be provided for our visitors to cater for their needs and comfort. These are the things that our participants and expert community appreciate and look for. For the organizers, this year´s edition comes to an end, but preparations of future years are well under way already,” says Zbyněk Pavlačík, head of Jagello 2000, the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days main organizing agency.
