'Ostravian' MiG-15 will fly over Mošnov

31.07.2017, 14:40

Aircraft of private operators participate very rarely at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. However, this year will be one of these few occasions as the legendary MiG-15 of the Czech Flying Legends Company will be a part of the show's programme.

This aircraft has a special charm for the show taking place at Ostrava Leoš Janáček Airport because it has a city emblem of Ostrava on its nose cone. The camouflage itself is inspired by the MiG-15 which belonged to the 30th Fighter-Bomber Squadron 'Ostravian' and which also wore this emblem. The only difference is the tiger motive on the top of the tail that symbolizes cooperation with NATO Tigers Association.

“We would like to commemorate the history of Czech, or Czechoslovak, Air Force by the participation of this aircraft, therefore, we believe that it will bring joy not only to aviation fans. A private aircraft will be in the programme of our show for the first time since 2010 when the Hawker Hurricane, a famous WWII aircraft, participated. Our cooperation with organizers of the Open Days at Čáslav Air Base also contributed to an agreement with the operators as the MiG-15 was in lead of an opening flypast there. The form of display at NATO Days will be determined later,“ says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of Jagello 2000. “It is also worth noting that the aircraft was manufactured in 1955 at Aero Vodochody, a new general partner of NATO Days.”

The MiG15UTI is a two-seat trainer version of the MiG-15 fast jet which operated primarily in the Korean War. This particular aircraft served in the Polish Air Force until 1990. Four years later, it was sold to a private owner in the United States where it took part in various air shows. The current owner, Czech Flying Legends, bought the aircraft in 2013.
