The Czech Air Force to Present Itself At Full Scale

13.09.2013, 15:10

The Czech Air Force is preparing a massive participation at this year of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, including attractive dynamic display of artistry of its pilots and large static display of aircrafts, which keep our sky safe.

“Because NATO Days in Ostrava take place together with Czech Air Force Days, the participation of our air force is without any doubt the largest of all air participants. Besides that the Czech Army is an organizer of the event, which provides many crucial aspects of its preparations and realizations. This mutual synergy of both events has been going on for four years to mutual satisfaction. We greatly value all the support, cooperation and good will we receive from the Czech Air Force. We can simply say that without them there would be no NATO Days in Ostrava, or if so, only in greatly limited format,” Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association, which is the main organizer of NATO Days in Ostrava, says.

“NATO Days – Czech Air Force Days are one of only few truly large events, where the army can show a full scale of its capabilities and modern equipment to the public. These presentations are definitely not self-serving; they can be viewed also as an important component of control of armed forces by the general public. We all have to acknowledge that defence of our country is issue concerning not only our professional, but also all citizens. It is therefore necessary for the public to have general knowledge about their armed forces and their capabilities and equipment,” Colonel Libor Štefánik, the commander of the Czech Air Force, says. “We cannot forget also the international and NATO dimension of NATO Days in Ostrava, which ups the prestige of the Czech Republic as a solid member of the Euro-Atlantic space.”

The Czech Air Force is going to offer a lot to the visitors of the event. First of all, the Czech made L-159 Alca light attack aircraft is going to perform an advanced flying display. This display is going to be also performed by a supersonic JAS-39 Gripen fighter made by the Swedish company Saab. We have already informed that two JAS-39 Gripens from the 21st Tactical Air Force Base Čáslav are going to perform an attractive and unique display of in-flight refuelling together with Swedish KC-130 tanker.

Another solo dynamic display is going to be performed by Mi-24/35 helicopter from the 221st Helicopter Squadron. This helicopter together with two Mi-171Š transport helicopters is going to take part in ground forces displays as well. The Mi-171Š helicopter will serve as a vehicle for paratroopers from Prostějov in their jump on Saturday. The paratroopers will also jump from CASA C-295 aircraft.

Then there is the ceremonial opening of the event, when planes of our air force together with Slovak MiG-29 and L-39 Albatros are going to fly-by over the venue in a commemorative fly-by, with which we remind the 20th anniversary of the independent Czech Republic and Slovak Republic and their independent security services.

Aircrafts of the Czech Air Force are going to be presented at the static display too. There are going to be two variants of the Alca – L-159A and two-seat version L-159T1. The Gripen fighters are going to be presented in JAS-39C and JAS-39D versions, the Mi-171Š helicopter in a modernized version for deployment in Afghanistan. Then you will be able to see the Mi-24/35 helicopter, L-410 FG photographic aircraft and Jak-40 and CASA C-295M transport aircraft.

The Czech Air Force has visible displays and besides them it also carries out transport tasks and keep transport reserve, provides medical and rescue service, monitoring and analysis of the crisis plan of the event and many more.
