Stellar Turkish Stars Coming to Ostrava Again!

13.02.2013, 18:21

NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days Organizers are proud to announce this year’s first star or stars, more precisely. Türk Yıldızlari – the Turkish Stars aerobatic group are returning to Ostrava again this September, following their spectacular premiere performance in 2011. Back then, the group stole the show with their dazzling display including the smoke effects and original commentary with unforgettable Czech language expressions.

“We believe this is a real treat not only for the fans of this world-renowned aerobatic group, but for many of our visitors as well,” stresses Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of the Jagello 2000 association, the main organizer of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days at the Ostrava Leoš Janáček Airport. “Immediately after their stunning display two years ago, we were bombarded with numerous requests and wishes from our visitors to see the group again as soon as possible. Although we were not successful last year, we are very pleased that the group have included NATO Days in Ostrava in their display calendar this year,” comments Pavlačík.

It is not so common to have such a show highlight announced so early in the new year. “We are very excited to have this official confirmation already,” adds Pavlačík. In his view, this is a culmination of many months of intensive negotiations and a testimony to Ostrava’s role in the first line-up of the “Extra-league of European air shows”.

Turkish Air Force has been participating at Ostrava since 2011, with the then Czech debut of the Turkish Stars, also in part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the country’s air arm. In 2012, the Turkish flag was hoisted again, thanks to the premiere Central European participation of the brand new 100th-anniversary-created F-16 Solotürk team.

“Turkish Air Force participation so far has made lasting impressions on NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days visitors. We would like to thank the Turkish side for this and say how much we are looking forward to this year’s spectacle,” concludes Pavlačík.

The Türk Yıldızları Team was formed in 1992 and first flew as the Turkish Stars in 1993. As only a very few aerobatic teams (in Europe it is only the Patrouille Suisse), the group flies on the supersonic fighter jets, the highly-manoeuvrable NF-5s in attractive livery of Turkish national colours of red and white. The planes have been further modified to better suit specific needs for aerobatic group flying. The Turkish Stars hold a unique record, set in 2001, when their performance in Baku, Azerbaijan, was viewed by one million spectators.
