Royal Air Force Greatly Represented Yet Again

30.05.2013, 11:40

The Royal Air Force is again to have the largest representation of all foreign Air Forces at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2013. Unlike previous years, the RAF is not going to present its aircraft in dynamic presentations, but is sending a great line-up for the static.

Royal Air Force plans to send two Eurofighter Typhoons to represent its most advanced aircraft type. The RAF Typhoons had seen their Central European debut at Ostrava in 2007. Another two types coming this year - the Hawk T1 and the King Air - were presented in air demonstrations in 2012. In addition, returning after three years is the Tornado GR.4 to complement the presentation of entire RAF‘s fast fighter jet inventory. Moreover, the 2013 RAF’s participation may even see some later additions.

“Our visitors certainly recall absolutely exceptional participation of four display teams of the Royal Air Force last year, including the world-famous Red Arrows aerobatic group. Although the RAF is not demonstrating any of its aircraft in the air this year, it is still a remarkable participation since no other event in Central Europe can boast so many diverse RAF types as NATO Days in Ostrava 2013. We are grateful for this and are viewing it as a proof of continued special relationship that our show has been enjoying with the UK since 2006,” explains Zbyněk Pavlačík from the organizing Jagello 2000 Association.

NATO Days in Ostrava indeed rank among the RAF’s premier presentation venues in Europe.  It was here, where the Eurofighter Typhoon was presented on static and in the air for the very first time in Central Europe. Ostrava has also seen the international farewells of the Tornado F3 and Harrier GR.9 before the types were removed from RAF inventory. Moreover, Sir Stephen Dalton, the RAF Chief of Air Staff, visited NATO Days in Ostrava himself in 2010.
