Military Historical Institute to Introduce Czechoslovak Light Tank LT 35

12.09.2013, 09:20

The Military Historical Institute Praha (VHÚ) is going to persuade visitors of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days that the Czechoslovak Škoda LT vz. 35 light tank from the inter-war period does not belong among old junk. This beautiful jewel of its collection is going to present itself in an attractive dynamic display following a thorough refurbishment.

“The participation of the LT vz. 35 tank from the Military Historical Institute fills us with joy. It is one of the most treasured pieces the institute has in its collections. Not just historical vehicles enthusiasts are definitely going to enjoy the display,” Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association, which organizes NATO Days in Ostrava, comments the participation of the Czechoslovak light tank.

The LT vz. 35 light tank, which was manufactured by Škoda Plzeň and ČKD companies between 1936 and 1938, survived only in five specimens and only one of them is in working order today. It is the one in collections of the VHÚ thanks to a demanding, almost four years long, refurbishment. The Czechoslovak LT vz. 35 tank is in the exact state as was seen by our soldiers shortly before the Second World War and it introduced itself to the public at Tank Day in Lešany just in the end of August this year.

The Military Historical Institute continues with the display of the light tank in its tradition of introducing the jewels of its collections. The visitors of NATO Days could admire its follower, LT vz. 38 light tank, after-war German Leopard 1 or Israeli Merkava Mk. I.
