The first day of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2019 attracted 125 000 people!
The XIX. NATO Days in Ostrava & X. The Czech Air Force Days program celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NATO. In pleasant weather, approximately 125,000 visitors attended the first day of the largest security show in Europe. While the ground exposition was dominated by a static display of the gigantic aeroplanes and the ground forces of 3 foreign countries, the air was filled by the attractive show of 3 aerobatic groups. This year's special partner country is Romania and the flags of the 17 participating countries and the NATO flag fly over Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava.
This year's NATO Days in Ostrava & X. The Czech Air Force Days are packed with a top-notch program, not only in terms of quantity but above all in the attractiveness of individual points of the static and dynamic program. Nearly 70 dynamic demonstrations are available in the air and on the ground for a total of 16 hours.
Among the aviation technology, visitors could not overlook the world's largest serial aircraft C-5M Super Galaxy, strategic bomber B-52 Stratofortress, transport aircraft Airbus A 400M or refuelling aircraft KC-135 Stratotanker. After three years, the Alliance E3A Sentry aircraft with AWACS system returned to the airport in Mosnov. Romania, which is a special partner nation for this year, presented the IAR-99 Soim and IAR 330 Puma helicopter in a dynamic demonstration. The same machines will also be seen on static demonstrations, where they will be completed by a transport aircraft C-27J Spartan. Interesting was the performance of the Romanian MiG 21, which was once in the arsenal of the 8th Fighter Regiment, here at the airport in Mosnov.
A total of approximately 100 pieces of aircraft are present at the NATO Days, including the new aircraft L-39NG produced by Aero Vodochody and American helicopters AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom, which will replace the old Mi-24/35 in the Czech Air Force. Visitors, often in a family atmosphere, watched dynamic demonstrations in the air on blankets laid on the grass, especially the debut performances of three acrobatic teams - the French Patrouille de France, the Finnish Midnight Hawks and the Swiss PC-7 Team. The highlight of the show was a joint masterpiece of the world champion in aerobatics Martin Šonka on the Special Extra 300SR and display pilot, Cpt. Ivo Kardos on JAS-39 C Gripen. Last but not least, the unique joint paradrop of a total of forty Czech and Polish special forces parachutists from two aircraft C-295 Casa, who for a few minutes filled the sky above the airport.
Special Partner Nation Romania for the first time at NATO Days introduces ground technology, which is represented by the main battle tank TR-85M1 Bison, wheeled armoured personnel carrier Piranha III or self-propelled anti-aircraft system Gepard. An extensive presentation of the rescue equipment was prepared by the Romanian Ministry of the Interior. The exhibition of ground equipment at this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days is enriched in addition to Romania and the Czech Republic by two other foreign participants. Poland represented by a special forces AGAT unit with its fleet including the Oshkosh M-ATV, Germany presents the main battle tank Leopard 2, the combat vehicle Puma and the armoured wheeled transporter Boxer.
Along with the presentation of firefighting rescue services, customs officers, the prison service and others, so the first day of the XIX. NATO Days in Ostrava & X. The Czech Air Force Days became a holiday for security forces.
