Slovakia will present its new Spartan and Black Hawk, the MiG-29 will repeat the flying display
The celebration of the anniversary of the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia at this year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days cannot be missed by representatives of Slovakia. Its Air Force will present its new equipment - the C-27 Spartan transport aircraft and the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Additionally, the MiG-29 fighter aircraft will perform a popular dynamic display.
Slovakia, which took over the role of the Special Partner Nation last year, will present itself in Mošnov with its newest aircraft, and in the case of the C-27 Spartan it will be also its foreign premiere. Additionally, the Slovak MiG-29 won the award for the best flying display last year.
"Without Slovak participation, the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia and its armed forces was unthinkable and we are glad to have the opportunity to recall our long-standing common history," emphasizes Zbyněk Pavlačík, chairman of Jagello 2000. "The Slovak Air Force is currently replacing its Soviet-era aircraft with new ones of western provenance, and we are delighted to have chosen our event for premiere foreign performances last year and this year, "adds Pavlacik.
Slovakia now has a pair of C-27 Spartan airplanes made by the Italian company Leonardo-Finmeccanica, the first of them was delivered last November, the second one just a month ago. These are mid-range twin-turboprop airplanes and they replaced An-24 and An-26 aircraft. They will serve for both national missions and national crisis management.
Another new addition is the UH-60 Black Hawk multi-purpose helicopter, which was shown in its international premiere at NATO Days last year. The US Sikorsky company gradually supplies the Slovak Air Force with nine of these machines. Their versatility allows them to be used not only for combat operations and ground support, but also for training and assistance in natural disasters.
By contrast, the twin-engine MiG-29 fighter aircraft, which forms the backbone of the Slovak Air Force, was developed in the 1970s, and Slovakia is already considering to replace them with the Swedish JAS-39 Gripen or the US F-16 Fighting Falcon. However, MiG-29 aircraft, which are upgraded to NATO standards, will be used at least until 2019.
