Slovakia to offer Albatros in premiere and favourite MiG-29 solo

For the first time ever during NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days, Slovakia will add premiere display of its L-39 Albatros training aircraft to its traditional dynamic display of MiG-29. The helicopter Mi-17 will not be missed as well in its support role, the visitors will have also an opportunity to see the helicopter at the static display.

The catchiest dynamic display still stands for two-engine MiG-29 jet fighter, which performs at NATO Days regularly, in 2012 with a dog fight simulation. In the context of ongoing modernization, Slovakian army was pondering about purchasing of new jets fighters compatible with Alliance’s equipment; however the government signed prolonging of Russian contract up to 2019.  

 “Despite the fact that MiG-29 was introduced in 1970’s, it still belongs among high performance aircraft and its displays are much demanded not only during NATO Days. Moreover, during this year Slovaks will add new display of L-39 Albatros jet trainer aircraft, which will be surprisingly Mošnov’s premiere,” informed Zbyněk Pavlačík from Jagello 2000. “Five years ago, Latvian group Baltic Bees performed display with L-39 training aircrafts; we had a chance to see them for several times during their fly pasts, nevertheless it will be just this year, when L-39 will perform real solo display.”

Nonetheless, the modernization will surely affect helicopter squadron, which is currently equipped by Mi-17 transport helicopters. Therefore visitors of NATO Days may have one of the last opportunities to witness Mi-17 under Slovakians colours on static display. Since 2016, Slovakia should change every year 2-3 Mi-17 helicopters for American UH-60 Black Hawk.
