NATO Days in Ostrava to Feature the Presentation of the Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Awards Again

For the second time, the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days are becoming a place where the prestigious Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Awards will be presented. The Awards will be presented to two significant personalities who have greatly contributed to freedom and democracy in Central Europe and to strengthening of transatlantic relations.

 “The NATO Days in Ostrava are also an important social event, a meeting place for influential personalities not only from the Czech Republic, but also from the neighbouring countries and other NATO member states. The NATO Days are accompanied by expert programme, where these personalities meet discuss security policy, further international cooperation and therefore strengthen the our cesurity guarantees,” says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association- the main organiser of the NATO Days in Ostrava.

 “This year, the Awards will be presented to Mr Eduard Kukan, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, and to Gen. (Ret.) David Petraeus, former Commander of the International Security Asistance Force Alliance Forces in Afghanistan, former commander of MNF-I and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. ,. We are very grateful for their contribution for the security and stability of our countries and for their kind acceptance of the Award nominiations,” adds Zbyněk Pavlačík.

The Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Award- CSTA is an initiative designed to award Czech, Slovak and international personalities who have significantly contributed to freedom and democracy in Central Europe, to strengthening of transatlantic ties and to integration of Central European countries into Euro-Atlantic structures. The initiative was launched by the Jagello 2000 Association, the main organiser of the NATO Days in Ostrava, together with the Slovak Atlantic Commission. The Awards are presented twice a year - during the GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum and the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. The Awardees are selected by the Honorary Committee.

The Award was first presented in 2012 at the GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum in Bratislava to the American diplomat Ron Asmus (in memoriam) and the former Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, Alexandr Vondra. During the NATO Days in Ostrava the same year, Josef Stank, former Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic (in memoriam) and Gen. (Ret.) Klaus Naumann, former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee were awarded. This year at GLOBSEC, two other esteemed personalities received the Award - Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, and Oldřich Černý, former Head of Czech Foreign Intelligence Service.
