High Quality and Attractivity of the Programme Confirmed Again
The thirteenth year of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force started symbolically with an arrival of the largest aircraft at the venue, the An-124 Ruslan and it was finished with its departure. The second day of the largest air-military-security show in Central Europe was visited by 91,000 people; altogether the show was visited by 145,000 people. We thank all of them! NATO Days in Ostrava are therefore still the most visited two day event in the Czech Republic and that is thanks to visitors happy with the attractive programme and organization of the event at very high level.
The 13th year of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days took place in extremely variable weather conditions, which demanded lot of effort from the organizers. “In last five years we did not have such changing weather. I want to thank everyone, who visited the show in spite of the weather to reward the participants, who devoted lot of energy to the preparations. My large thanks belong to our partners and everyone who took part in organization of the event,” Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association, says.
Main attractions of the Saturday programme at Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava were a ceremonial joint fly-by of Czech and Slovak Air Forces, an unique display of in-flight refuelling of two JAS-39 Gripen aircrafts from KC-130 tanker, a Czech premiere of the Spanish Patrulla ASPA aerobatic team and very well liked Turkish Stars aerobatic team. The ground displays were dominated by the An-124 Ruslan giant transport plane, which was always crowded with visitors and also offered attractive displays of loading of Pandur armoured vehicle.
NATO Days in Ostrava consisted also of FLYIN International Aviation Industry Exhibition, international helicopter conference with participation of defence ministers of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia, which was devoted to multilateral cooperation in training and development of transport helicopter capabilities and building of transport capabilities of Afghani helicopter force. In the framework of NATO Days in Ostrava there was also an ceremony of the Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Award, which is awarded to important persons in field of Central European security. This year it was awarded to American four star General David Petraeus, the former commander of International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, and to Eduard Kukan, the former Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The thirteenth year of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days attracted not only visitors, but also Czech and foreign media. In weeks before the event it became a regular part of news of local and even state-wide media of different types. For example viewers of the Czech Television were able to watch 5 hours of live footage from the event during weekend.
In the last week before the event, more than 154,000 people visited the natodays.cz website, which have viewed more than a million pages. Because of the rising interest in communication through smart phones, the organizers have decided to create a mobile version of the website, which attracted 25,000 visitors in the last week. According to data of Municipal Police Ostrava, 3,595 people used their bicycle storage zones.
