The Super Puma Air Display to mark the Swiss premiere participation at Ostrava
As officially confirmed by the Swiss Armed Forces, Switzerland will participate at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days for the very first time in the form of the AS332M Super Puma helicopter display.
“We have been attempting to get participation from Switzerland for the past three years and we believe that visitors will like it in the same way they liked last year´s flying display by Austrian Black Hawk helicopter,” comments Zbyněk Pavlačík, Jagello 2000 chairman. “Although the Super Puma has displayed in the Czech Republic already in mid-1990s at the show in Hradec Králové, for the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days it will be its premiere participation along with the first-ever participation by Switzerland.” To date, only the Super Puma’s “little brother” – the EC 135+ chopper – has been participating at Ostrava, representing the Moravian-Silesian Rescue Service.
The Swiss have been using the AS332M Super Puma helicopters since 1987. In 2001 the fleet was complemented by an updated AS532UL “Cougar” version,” explains Jan Čadil, the Aviation+Aeronautics magazine Editor-in-Chief. “These Eurocopter-produced helicopters excel with their ability to serve in many roles and they are easily controllable. They are being employed for transport of people, cargo or for search and rescue missions, using their night-vision equipment.” During flying displays, they also employ their flares, thus making the display even more attractive for spectators.
At present, the Swiss Air Force operates 26 of the Super Puma/Cougar helicopters, using them with success in international stabilization operations, such as the one in Kosovo.
