Sweden´s Argus returning to Ostrava

15.06.2012, 09:43

After last year´s premiere, Sweden Air Force will participate again at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days with the same type of aircraft presentation – the S100D Argus, thus enabling renewed display of three different Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aicraft types at Ostrava.

Apart from the Swedish Argus, based on the Saab 340 original aircraft, earlier confirmations for this year include the NATO’s E-3A and the E-3D of the Royal Air Force. The latter two are built as Boeing 707 variants. Visitors will therefore have again a unique chance to compare three different “AWACS” aircraft, this being a rare opportunity elsewhere.

In contrast to the E-3A and E-3D, which feature a circular antenna radome, the Argus uses a native fixed Erieye radio-communication antenna placed on pylons above the fuselage. Thanks to this equipment, these aircraft can gather information, engage in reconnaissance as well as communicate with and control and direct other aircraft.

Sweden thus becomes 19th country to participate this year. Organizers still believe the final number of countries will possibly expand, as might the Sweden´s presentation with further discussions still going on.
