Slovenia to make a debut at NATO Days with PC-9M on the ground and in the air

05.03.2012, 17:55

Slovenia becomes another first-time participant to NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days 2012. The country's Air Force and Air Defence should be represented by two PC-9M aircraft, one each for static and dynamic display.

The participation will mark Slovenia´s return to an aviation event in the Czech Republic after almost 10 years. “Slovenian PC-9M took part at Brno airshow in 2003. However, it will be the country´s first ever participation at our event,” says Zbyněk Pavlačík, from the organizing Jagello 2000 association. “We are very pleased since Slovenia is one of the seven countries that were invited to join NATO at its Prague Summit in 2002. We would like to recall this historical meeting this year.”

The PC-9M aircraft to be presented by Slovenia is a light two-seater from the Pilatus production. It has been nicknamed “Hudournik” (“Swift”) in Slovenia. It is used by air forces as a training aircraft prior to pilots´ conversion to more powerful machines. It is thus similar to the UK Tucano, which was on display at Ostrava last year.

Slovenia is one more country that responded positively to participate at NATO Days in the anniversary year of their NATO-membership invitation at the Summit in Prague in 2002. Other confirmed then-invitees are Lithuania and Slovakia, while we are still expecting responses from Bulgaria, Estonia and Latvia. Romania has already announced that it would not be able to participate.
