Ostrava municipal police will present its activities and will watch over bicycles

31.08.2012, 08:07

Ostrava municipal police, a traditional participant of NATO Days in Ostrava since the beginning of the event in 2001, won’t be missing this year again. It will present itself in dynamic displays of its duty and in static display of its equipment and it will at the same time watch over visitors’ bicycles in bicycle-locker zones for the third year.

The every-year participation of the Ostrava Municipal Police is an integral part of our event and it is very favourite with the visitors thanks to its richness,” Zbyněk Pavlačík, the chairman of the Jagello 2000 Association, expounded the Ostrava MP participation. “More than welcome is also the bicycle-locker zone, which is operated by the Ostrava MP in the event’s venue for the visitors,” Pavlačík added.

The possibility to use two bicycle-locker zones at NATO Days in Ostrava is being offered for the third time by the Ostrava MP. These zones, in which the bicycles are watched over by the constables, is free for the visitors to use and the cyclists therefore don’t have to walk with their bicycles around the venue and bump into people. In case of good weather, the bicycle is an alternative to cars or public transport, an alternative that combines healthy exercise with a possibility to avoid likely traffic jams. “The cyclists can use international bicycle route no. 5, which leads through the Poodří region straight to the Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport. Patrols from the municipal police will be informing the cyclists along the way,” Richard Váňa, deputy director of Ostrava MP, said about the cycling infrastructure at NATO Days in Ostrava.

There will also be equipment of the Ostrava MP presented at a static display. Visitors will be able familiarize themselves vehicles used by the Ostrava MP, a scooter or a Volswagen Crafter vehicle fitted as a mobile camera system assessment centre and a mobile prevention centre. Then the visitors will have a chance to see a speed measurement device, a noise measurement device, a DRAGER device for ascertaining the alcohol level in breath, a mobile camera system and many others. There also will be a laser shooting range at the static display. Visitors with children can look forward to interesting games, quizzes and competitions prepared by the Ostrava MP.

The Ostrava MP participation at NATO Days in Ostrava does not end with static displays and the bicycle-locker zones. Officers from the canine unit will present displays from training of their dogs, with model situations from real duty, for example resolving a situation of disorderly conduct that resulted in an injury, an intervention against an assailant who used open fire against the patrol, and so on. There will also be a mounted unit with horses that will present their riding skills, horse manoeuvrability skills and service on horses in extreme situations to the visitors. “Also officers from our rescue canine unit will present their skills to the visitors. Their dogs are trained to search for missing persons or persons hidden in rubble. They will present themselves in a dynamic display of rappelling down from a building,” Váňa described the third dynamic display of the Ostrava MP.

Many visitors of NATO Days in Ostrava come from Ostrava and also from other municipalities that decided to have their own municipal police. The visitors usually meet the constables in the streets and therefore they can make their own image, but the span of the municipal police forces activities is wider than many would have thought. The participation of Ostrava MP is therefore an opportunity to inform the general public about their service and activities and to prove, that the force is able fulfil its task on the field of public safety and security. “The constables are already preparing intensively, so they can present their skill and prove that they are ready to secure the safety of our citizens,” Váňa closed.
