Estonian Air Force to become yet another first-time participant

19.03.2012, 17:32

This year's NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days will be marked by numerous premiere participations. Joining this list is the Estonian Air Force with 2 aircraft for display.

Estonian confirmation arrived only a couple of days ago. “We have been very nicely surprised by Estonian confirmation and we appreciate their offer very much,” stresses Zbyněk Pavlačík, Jagello 2000 chairman. “Estonian Air Force participates at similar shows only to a limited extent. We believe therefore, that our visitors will really relish the possibility to see the country's air arm static and dynamic presentation,” adds Pavlačík.

The Czech-made L-39 aircraft is confirmed for participation in Ostrava, in its typical bluish livery with Estonian Air Force insignia, together with Soviet-built An-2 cargo biplane. While the L-39 will be “parked” on the static display, the An-2 is supposed to make a rare flying demonstration of a firefighting water drop. “Visitors of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days are already familiar with the aerial firefighting by W3A Sokol helicopters using their Bambi Buckets in the hands of Czech Air Force pilots. The Estonian demonstration, though, will be the very first of its kind at NATO Days by a fixed-wing airplane,” describes Pavlačík. Moreover, it is historically the very first participation of Estonian Air Force in the Czech Republic.

CHANGE: From technical grounds, the Estonian Air Force is present its aircrafts only on static dispay.

Estonia has accepted invitation to participate at NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days on the occasion of marking the 10th anniversary of the NATO summit in Prague held in November 2002, where seven countries had been invited to join the Alliance. “This year, we want to commemorate this anniversary as one of the important topics and we wanted to recall it not only to the Czech citizens,” stresses Pavlačík. Estonia is joining the countries of this group that have already confirmed their participation – Slovenia (more here), Lithuania (more here) and Slovakia (more here). Organizers are still waiting to hear from Bulgaria and Latvia. Romania has already announced that it would not be able to take part.
