Slovakia sending its MiGs again
Slovak MiG-29s will feature again at the NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days. As in previous years, they should be displayed in static and dynamic presentations.
„We are hoping to repeat the 2010 an 2011 presentations, i.e. one aircraft each on static and dynamic display so that visitors could enjoy both a detailed, up-close view and its flying performance as well,“ says Zbyněk Pavlačík, Jagello 2000 Chairman. „We think this aircraft is very interesting for our visitors.” This might not be the sole Slovak participation. A quick reaction customs unit might be present as well, having had joint display with their Czech colleagues in the past, or some other air or ground military/civilian equipment.
There is also a symbolic side to the Slovak participation – Slovakia is one of the 7 countries, invited to join NATO at the 2002 NATO Summit in Prague which took place 10 years ago. Organizers wish to highlight the significance of this summit.
Slovak Armed Forces are a regular participant, having first displayed in 2002 with a martial art demonstration by a 5th Special Regiment from Martin. Five years on, the country sent its elite EOD specialists with an Alligator 4x4 vehicle and participating annually since. From 2010, Air Force participates with MiG-29 aircraft, also thanks to the unique combination of NATO Days in Ostrava & Czech Air Force Days.
